Poet Hope Clayton
Over the course of her 70+ years, Hope Clayton has worked as a Professional Singer, Technical Writer/Editor, English Professor at both FSCJ in Jacksonville and King Abdul Aziz University in Saudi Arabia, and Grant Writer/Coordinator.
She started writing poetry late in life and has benefitted enormously from sessions with a small group of local poets. The group’s recently published sampling of poems A Gathering of Poets, ed. Sharon Scholl is available online through Amazon. Introducing Hope Clayton, a jazz CD of one of Clayton’s early live performances, can be ordered online from Amazon or listened to free on Spotify.
Clayton has also served as a church musician for 40 years and sang with big bands, jazz swing combos, a cappella vocal groups, and wedding bands. Her recent collaboration with Jarrett Carter, the talented young composer and instrumentalist who provided the musical component for their PAM Jam collaboration, and Alice Shinkos, whose beautiful watercolor painting is the third component, has been a JOYful surprise!
Artist Alice Shinkos
Born in Long Beach, California, Alice Shinkos moved to the lush marshes of Beaufort, South Carolina, and then to a row house in the inner city of Baltimore, Maryland. She attended college in the hills of Northwest Georgia and now enjoys the ocean breezes of Northeast Florida.
Growing up in a very intellectual and creative family produced an atmosphere of innovation and discovery, which led Shinkos to begin drawing and painting at an early age. College led her to expand her interest in the natural world, and she received a Bachelor’s degree with a double Major in Art & Biology.
For the next 25 years, her representational painting style reflected her love of nature, and she extended her commitment to art by teaching others while also exhibiting in galleries, shows, and festivals, winning many awards. Her later work on her Masters degree in drawing and painting led her in new directions.
Today, while continuing her nature works, she has added a new body of intuitive work that begins with abstractions and results in striking visual narratives.
